She's been open and honest about her mental health battle following the death of her beloved father from cancer in 2016.

And Sheridan Smith, 37, told Lorraine on Friday she 'wasn't in her right frame of mind' before and she understands why there was a backlash against her.

She also spoke about struggling with the side effects after taking various medications for her anxiety as she tried to regain control over her life.

Promoting her new singing album, A Northern Soul, she said of her songs: 'They've been like therapy for me, I've been away from the public eye for quite a while. It's been nice to do an album and not care what you look like.'

'Everyone goes through grief and people deal with it in different ways.

'Once you're finally out the other side, there will always be days when it hits you, but people are stopping me in the street and cuddling me and been really supportive.'
