A man dressed in black and carrying a rifle was yesterday arrested in a remote park by police probing a string of mysterious burglaries and the fatal shooting of a scientist who was camping with his two children.
Sheriffs busted Anthony Rauda, 42, for a parole violation after following his footprints up a steep ravine in Malibu Creek State Park, California.
Area - Food - Buildings - Times - Years
They were searching the area after food was stolen from local buildings eight times in the past two years - and will now investigate if Rauda was behind the thefts and a also a spate of shootings.
He was found when dozens of deputies searching a canyon area with helicopter support saw fresh boot prints leading to a steep ravine about a mile north of a road.

A short time later, searchers heard movement in the brush and saw a man walking quickly. They stopped the man, who was dressed in black and had a rifle, and he surrendered.
'Detectives followed the boot prints approximately 50 yards,' Sheriff Jim McDonnell said on Wednesday night.

'Shortly after that they heard movement amongst the brush, followed by observing a male adult wearing black clothing, walking quickly, who resembled the suspects in the burglaries.
'I don't know if he was living the brush or if there was housing out there,' the sheriff said.

Detectives will examine Rauda's rifle to see it is linked to any crimes including the fatal shooting of a father as he slept with his children in a tent in the park in June.
