Policeman rushed to hospital after inhaling ‘chemical’ in Manchester

A police officer has been taken to hospital by his colleagues after reports he breathed in an unknown chemical at a flat in Manchester.

Police, paramedics and several fire engines were seen on a quiet cul-de-sac in Wythenshawe after the incident on Thursday evening.

Officers - Close - Residents - Homes - Police

Officers have cordoned off the close with residents evacuated from their homes, but police say there is no wider threat to the public. Residents said a man was arrested.

Three fire engines were called to the scene and firefighters wearing specialist breathing apparatus are now trying to establish what the chemical is.
