Mother, 48, who fell 27 stories down a garbage chute in her Manhattan apartment building was 'drunk'

The 48-year-old woman whose body fell down a garbage chute from the 27th story of her Manhattan apartment building and was found in the trash compactor was determined to have been intoxicated, investigators have said.

Lara Prychodko was discovered by a service worker at 1 Irving Place on Tuesday night.

Surveillance video of the mother-of-one shows her staggering drunk out of the elevator on the 27th floor at around 4:20pm on Tuesday.

News of the findings was reported by the New York Post.

Woman - Building - Months - Process - Husband

The woman had been living in the building for just six months and was in the process of divorcing her husband, construction executive David Christopher Schlachet.

He filed for divorce in 2016.

David, the woman's estranged husband, is the co-founder of Taocon Inc, a construction company in New York.

The couple were regularly pictured on the Manhattan social circuit and in The Hamptons before they parted ways.

Their wedding was announced by The New York Times in 2003. They had one son, Talin, together.

David declined to comment when contacted by DailyMail.com on Wednesday evening.

People inside the building are at a loss over what may have happened.

'It's an unfortunate situation, there's nothing else you can really say,' one of the building's doormen told DailyMail.com on Wednesday.

Police said surveillance video footage recorded moments before her death show Prychodko staggering out of the building elevator.

Residents of the building said they believed Prychodko had a drinking problem, as she was regularly seen under the influence of alcohol.
