Nearly four in ten voters believe Theresa May’s Chequers deal is a betrayal of the referendum amid a hostile reaction from the Tory party faithful, it was revealed last night.

An opinion poll found that 35 per cent believe the Brexit compromise agreed by the Cabinet is the best deal Britain will get from the EU, while 38 per cent dismissed it as a sell-out.

The survey of 1,007 adults by Survation found that Jeremy Corbyn has moved ahead of Mrs May, with support for Labour up two points in the past fortnight to 40 per cent and the Tories down three points to 38.
