Last Sunday night concluded our first ever Cripplegate conference. The theme of this conference was Islam: Equipping Christians to think biblically about the Muslim faith.

As far as conferences on Islam go, this one was rather unique. Instead of expert scholars and professors lecturing on the nuances of the Muslim faith, instead of detailed strategies and innovative methodologies for reaching Muslims, instead of stunning reports from the frontlines of the mission field, our conference focused on the simple preaching and teaching of the word of God. The speakers were all normal pastors who regularly preach from a pulpit. The reason for this is because we are convinced that the most effective way to engage Islam and the most motivating means for sharing the gospel with Muslims is through a deeper understanding of the Bible. The better you know God, the more you want to share him with others. The better you know the word of God, the more equipped you are to proclaim this truth to others. We also want to demonstrate that engaging Muslims with the gospel is vital for everyone who is part of the church. It does not require a specialized degree or exclusive experience in a Muslim country. Islam is one of the largest opponents to the gospel, and its influence is only becoming larger, especially in America. We must all be equipped and ready to proclaim the hope and eternal joy we have found in Christ at any moment, especially when the Lord places a Muslim in our path.
