A Wisconsin has been charged in the death of her 13-year-old disabled daughter who was found alone, rotting in a filthy diaper last Memorial Day Weekend.

Nicole Gussert, 37, is accused of child neglect. Her daughter Brianna was found lying on her bed in their home in Appleton last year having not been fed or cleaned in days.

A police officer had been called to the home to perform a welfare check. When he got inside, he said there was rotting food and flies everywhere.

Brianna had a heavy diaper and part of her skin had started to decompose.

It is not clear why it took police so long to charge the girl's mother.

On Monday, she appeared in court to face one count of child neglect which, if convicted, could put her away for 25 years.

Gussert also faces three counts of possession with intent to deliver amphetamine.

Brianna had been alone for several days when she was discovered on May 29. A medical examiner estimated that she had been dead since May 24 and gave her official cause of death as sepsis.
