Selena Gomez, Kate Mara and Jonah Hill join big celeb push to save 6-year-old boy from fatal illness

Selena Gomez became the latest celeb to join a huge push to try and save a six-year-old boy's life on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old was one of dozens of famous faces taking to social media to share the story of Carter Sarkar.

Youngster - Sanfilippo - Syndrome - Children - Alzheimer

The youngster was diagnosed with Sanfilippo syndrome, also known as children's Alzheimer's.

Born seemingly perfect, Carter is missing a vital single enzyme that causes toxic storage material to build in his brain.

Symptoms - Months - Milestones

Symptoms didn't show until he was about 12 months, when he missed some developmental milestones.

However doctors told his parents Samir and Jen that he was just a little behind, that it was perfectly normal and that he would soon catch up.

But they soon learned the devastating news; the condition would eventually strip him of the cognitive and physical skills he has learned, and he will continue to regress and eventually die.

There is no known cure or treatment.

Family - Steadfast - Sister - Sophia - Hope

The family, including his steadfast big sister Sophia, eight, are now clinging to a last hope; a clinical trial.

They are attempting to raise the $1million needed to give him a fighting chance; for a trial the family say would never be funded by big pharma because it is not profitable.

Carter - Dad - Hollywood - Circles - Coach

Carter's dad is known in some Hollywood circles as Coach Samir; through his and Jen's company Fun & Sports, he has coached some famous offspring in his 25 years there.

Carter's heartbreaking story quickly caught fire online, with dozens of celebs pledging their support and sharing his GoFundMe campaign on Twitter Instagram and Facebook.
