Chinese smartphone giant OnePlus has finally launched its new flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6.

The gadget, which comes out on May 22, features gesture control, facial recognition and dual-rear cameras, as well as a front that is almost all screen - bar a 'notch' similar to Apple's.

Despite having many of the same features as Apple's iPhone X, the OnePlus 6 comes with a far lower price tag, costing just $529 (£469).

At a launch event in London today, OnePlus also announced its own AI-powered headphones, the OnePlus Bullets Wireless earphones, priced at $69 (£69).

Speaking at the launch event, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei said: 'With the OnePlus 6, we challenged ourselves to deliver an external design as smooth and elegant as the work we've done inside the device,'

The OnePlus 6 is a similar size to the company's previous smartphones, but features a 6.28-inch AMOLED display – larger than any of OnePlus's previous phones.

The gadget also has a glass back – OnePlus first glass-back phone since its 2015 X - that is made using Gorilla Glass 5, which Mr Pei said 'essentially gives your phone an armour'.

OnePlus has fitted the smartphone with 16 and 20 megapixel dual cameras as well as a 16 megapixel front-facing camera.

The company has brought back portrait mode, in which a subject is kept in focus while the background is blurred to produce artsy shots – a feature it introduced with the 5T.

With its new model, OnePlus added portrait shots to the front-facing camera for the first time.

The camera also sees the introduction of Slow Motion mode, which can capture high-definition footage frame-by-frame in incredible detail.
