Clinton camp blasts Trump's Mike Pence nod as the 'most extreme pick in a generation' for VP

Hillary Clinton's campaign was armed and ready this morning when Donald Trump confirmed this that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence would be joining his ticket as running mate.

Within minutes of the announcement Clinton's staff tweeted out a video deriding the conservative politician for his pursuit of a religious freedom bill in 2015 that Democrats say would have allowed business owners to discriminate against gays, had it not been amended.

Also included was a clip of Pence saying as a congressman that he'd back a government shut down in order to defund women's health network and abortion provider Planned Parenthood.

'Pence is the most extreme pick in a generation,' Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta said in a statement that went out simultaneously.

A tweet on Clinton's account later said, 'Mike Pence: He’s Donald Trump with a different haircut.'

Other Democratic groups piled on, saying Pence has a 'history of marginalizing women' and would be 'bad for working families.'

'Our nation’s potential future just got a lot scarier,' said NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue.

Clinton's campaign chair, Podesta, said in a statement, 'By picking Mike Pence as his running mate, Donald Trump has doubled down on some of his most disturbing beliefs by choosing an incredibly divisive and unpopular running mate known for supporting discriminatory politics and failed economic policies that favor millionaires and corporations over working families.'

Bill - Clinton - Barack - Obama - Administrations

The Democratic operative, who served in both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama's administrations, tore into Pence over his support for the Tea Party in 2010, when he served in GOP leadership in Congress.

The 'anti-LGBT law' he signed as governor 'legalized discrimination' against the gay community, the Clinton campaign official charged, 'alienated businesses, caused boycotts, lost investments and embarrassed Hoosiers.'
