Jim Carrey felt 'abandoned' by his addict mother

Jim Carrey has talked about his difficult childhood.

In the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter, the 56-year-old actor revealed that he struggled to deal with his mother's problems.

'My mom was addicted to pain medication. She was very sick in a lot of ways. She was lovely, too, but she was a child of alcoholics and she had issues,' said the movie star.

He added, 'And that's not intentional abandonment — she was always there for me, she was always there in the house — but if you're high on painkillers, that's abandonment.'

The Liar Liar actor added: 'I guess we're all abandoned to a certain extent, all of us in some way or another by something or someone, and that forms in us our belief about ourselves.'

He is starring in Showtime's Kidding, which premiers September 9.

He also said that he went to Hollywood with his eye on shaking things up.

'My plan was not to join Hollywood, it was to destroy it,' he said.
